Windows—using Win32 Disk Imager

1.

Insert SD card into PC.

2.

Click [Cancel] if prompted to format disk.

WARNING: Never format the SD card even if prompted.

Note the new drive letter that has been created (ie. F:).

4.

Click [Win32 Disk Imager].

5.

Select Image File (ie. piCorePlayer3.11.img).

6.

(Optional) Click [MD5 Hash].

Compare MD5 checksum with contents of piCoreImagex.xx.img.md5.txt

7.

Set Device to your SD card (ie. F:).

WARNING: Ensure you have your SD card selected. You can accidently overwrite USB drive!

8.

Click [Write].

Write data on "Image file" to "Device".

9.

Read Confirm overwrite message.

WARNING: Ensure Target Device is correct.

WARNING: Ensure Target Device label is correct.

Click [Yes].

10.

Writing should take about 10 seconds.

Exact time will depend on SD card quality.

Click [OK].

Click [Exit].

12.

Click [Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media].

13.

Click [Eject Device] PCP (F:).

Linux—using dd

1.

CAUTION: Make sure you know what your doing here. dd can write to any device and wipe out your hard disk in a second!

Depending on your system, finding the card device can use different tools.

Use lsblk or blkid to identify your device. Typically /dev/sd? or /dev/mmcblk?.

Run the command before and after inserting SD card.

2.

Using lsblk, type:

$ lsblk

dd - Find SD card

In this case, the card is located at /dev/sdf.

3.

Using blkid on piCorePlayer, type:

$ blkid

dd - Find SD card

In this case, the card is located at /dev/sdb.

4.

Unmount all partitions of the SD card device.

Type the following commands:

$ sudo umount /dev/sdf1

$ sudo umount /dev/sdf2

5.

Write the new image using this command.

$ sudo dd if=piCorePlayer3.11.img of=/dev/sdf bs=1M

dd - Write SD card

6.

Remove SD card. Image is ready to use.
